The Montclair Music Studio is proud to introduce Piano Instructor, Allison Schommer. Currently residing in Montclair, Allison has been studying piano for over 15 years. Ms. Schommer has acquired degrees from Marquette University and Central Piedmont Community College. She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Music Education from Montclair State University.
Ms. Schommer’s mission is to make learning music a fun and positive experience that brings out the best in each student. Grounded in a classical approach with strong theory and aural skills training, Allison strives to nurture each pupil’s unique gift and let their particular musical interests help guide their coursework.
Getting to Know Allison …
What Brought on Your Interest in Music?
I remember staring at my parents piano when I was five years old, wanting to be able to play the music from the latest Disney movie that had come out. My parents signed me up for lessons a year later, and my interest only grew from there.
When did you start your studies?
I began taking lessons when I was six years old.
Was Your Family Involved in Music?
My grandfather was a very accomplished pianist. He would always play all the old jazz standards from the 1940s and 50s with great warmth. I loved listening to him play.
Have You Participated in Any Extra Curricular Organizations?
When I was living in North Carolina, I was involved with the Charlotte Folk Society. I have also been a member of the American Choral Directors Association and Choristers Guild.
Have You Played at Other Venues?
I have been an accompanist and choir director for various churches since I was in high school.
What Other Types of Instruments are in Your Repertoire?
Voice and a little banjo.
What are Your Favorite Hobbies Other than Music?
I love history, going for walks, and spending time with my fiancé, John.
