Getting to Know Brianna…

What brought on your interest in music?

My mom, who played clarinet, wanted me to get involved with music and started me on piano lessons. From there, performing in elementary, middle and high school bands furthered my interest in music.

When did you start your studies?

I began studying piano at the age of four. In elementary and middle school I began my studies on woodwind instruments.

Was your family involved in music?

My mom played clarinet from middle school all the way through high school. She traveled to 7 European countries with the All State Regional Band when she was in high school.

What are other types of instruments in your repertoire?

As a piano major in college I perform a lot on piano, but I also perform on clarinet, flute and saxophone.

Have you participated in any Extra Curricular Organizations or music clubs?

Through high school I participated in all of the school musicals in the pit band. I also participated in the choir, jazz band and the marching band. I took private piano lessons outside of school as well as attending the Newark School of the Arts on Saturdays.

Have you played at other venues?

I traveled to Italy to compete in the “Osimo Nuova Coppa Pianists Competition”. Other performances I have given have taken place at the Rockleigh Country Club for private events on piano. I have also performed at Steinway Hall in a piano performance.

Any favorite hobbies other than music?

Outside of my music and school studies I am an active firefighter in the Rutherford Volunteer Fire Department. I joined when I was 16 years old. I also enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my friends and family.
