Getting to Know Dominic…

What brought on your interest in music?

Learning to play guitar in college brought on my interest to pursue music creatively and to perform. Guitar was the instrument that bridged the music I had played (8 years of piano and 5 years of saxophone) and the music I most liked to listen to, much of it being guitar driven and performed by the original artists. And the guitar’s fretboard was definitely the presentation I needed to make sense of the musical system and the relationships therein.

When did you start your studies?

Some of my earliest memories are at the piano, sitting next to my brother. I was enrolled in private piano lessons by first grade. My parents always loved music. My dad strummed a little, my mom played piano and violin. They both enjoyed singing in choirs their whole lives. And whenever I played, they would always mute the TV. That’s something that will always stick with me.

Have You Participated in Any Extra Curricular Organizations or music clubs?

Most of my career has been teaching all ages one-on-one, writing, arranging and performing solo. I currently perform in the ensemble at Immaculate Conception church in Montclair at the 6:30 mass on Sundays once or twice a month.

Have you played at other venues?

I can often be seen playing at the caffeinated Cedar Beans Coffee Joint open mic in Cedar Grove and was featured in their winter showcase this year.

Any favorite hobbies other than music?

When I’m not playing music, I enjoy running and photography.
