JoAnne Murray

The Montclair Music Studio is Proud to Introduce Woodwinds, Voice and Piano Teacher JoAnne Murray.

Ms. Murray is a multi talented musician and has been teaching with us since 2023.

JoAnne has been studying music for over 16 years. She believes that a successful instructor has the ability to mold the lessons to each student’s needs and to meet them where they are in their musical journey. Some students are hobbyists, while others are planning for a career in music, and she adapts her teaching style appropriately for either scenario and everything in between.

Getting to Know JoAnne…

What brought on your interest in music?

I’ve always been interested in music – singing along to Beatles CD’s at age 6, the radio and music class at school.
I love to listen and figure things out musically and I love that I can play anything I set my mind to.

When did you start your studies?

I started flute at age 9 and other instruments at age 14.

Was your family involved in music?

My parents only played the radio, but my extended family is full of musicians, including music teachers, a conductor and an opera singer.

Have You Participated in Any Extra Curricular Organizations or music clubs?

A resounding YES! Marching band, concert band, jazz band, choir, NYSSMA, woodwind quintet, & 10 ensembles per semester at Hofstra.

I also studied jazz (flute and bassoon) at Lagond Music School for two years.

What are other types of instruments in your repertoire?

I also play guitar, bass and ukulele.

Have you played at other venues?

I’ve played at Fordham’s football field, many concert halls and various locations in Connecticut and New York.

Any favorite hobbies other than music?

I enjoy knitting, puzzles, nature walks, cooking, skateboarding, dogs and reptiles.
