Getting to Know Meghan…

What brought on your interest in music as a child?

I have been involved in the performing arts since I was a child! Music was always around me in some way or another be it through family events, dance classes, or involvement in my school musicals and choir. This surrounding of music and performance later led to me studying Music Education with a focus on Classical Voice in college.
Did you play as a child?

As a child I explored many different instruments throughout Elementary and Middle School, the longest played being the flute. Of these trials, I later found that vocal performance was what I was most interested in. As time went on, however, I began studying piano in preparation for my music educator career. Once I began studying classical music in college I also reunited with my flute.
Was your family involved in music?

My family has been deeply involved in music my entire life. My grandmother used to sing on a radio show with her twin brother when she was young in the 1940’s. My mother and her siblings all have their respective instruments. My father was a vocalist in a Ska band and for as long as I can remember my mom has been a vocalist in a Classic Rock band.
Have you participated in any extracurricular organizations or music clubs?

From Elementary to High School I was involved in honors choirs and musicals every year. Once I started my college musical career I became very involved with the two university choirs as well as my university’s branch of NAFME (National Association of Music Educators). Outside of music, I am also a Gold Level member of my university’s leadership institute!
What are other types of instruments in your repertoire?

I am primarily a vocalist but began learning piano when I decided I wanted to go into Music Education. I also now have resumed playing the flute. On top of my main instruments, throughout college, I have been introduced to the guitar and many different typical “school band” instruments ranging from woodwinds to percussion.
Have you played at other venues?

While in High School, I had the privilege of performing in places such as Papermill Playhouse, Carnegie Hall, and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Throughout my college career, I also had the privilege of actively working with the NJSO as well as having the opportunity to perform in many Churches and Cathedrals throughout the United States.
Any favorite hobbies other than music?

When I am not making music I enjoy dancing and relaxing with friends and family. I have been involved in dance my whole life and love the chance to revisit ballet in my spare time. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends whenever I have the chance!
