Getting to Know Alexandra...

What brought on your interest in music?

My interest in music was brought on by my parents and grandparents. They have been listening to classical music since I was a baby and had it playing everywhere. My grandparents bought me my first violin.

Did you play as a child? If so, what instruments did you play?

As a child, I toyed with a variety of instruments: cello, fife, piano, viola, and violin, which I ended up focusing on.

Was your family involved in music?

In my family, my parents and grandparents listen to classical music and opera, and my uncle plays guitar. My cousins played the bells for a little bit in church. Everyone else listens to a variety of music.

Have you participated in any extra-curricular organizations or music clubs?

In middle school and high school I participated in NJ Regions and Allstate orchestras, Hunterdon Symphony, and Saturday Strings also in Hunterdon. In college, I do variety of gigs both classical and non classical such as New York Chamber players in NYC. I also play for people's recitals, especially composers.

What other types of instruments are in your repertoire?

The other instrument in my repertoire besides violin is viola, which I aspire to do my master's degree on. In addition, I have some very basic piano skills from college.

Have you played at other venues?

The other venues that I have played at are Carnegie Hall, The Barge, in Brooklyn NY, various parts of NYC and Montclair, and music festivals such as Bowdoin, Brevard, and Eastern Music Festival.

Any favorite hobbies other than music?

My other hobbies include, hiking, working out, visual arts such as drawing and photography, exploring, and reading.
