Getting to Know Lucy...

Lucy was born in a small village in Armenia, where she spent the earlier years of her youth prior to immigrating to the US in 2001. As a child she studied classical violin at the national conservatory and took an initial interest in singing as a result of her father’s love for jazz. At the age of ten, she became the youngest member of the YY Sisters, a vocal a cappella grop who perform non-secular Armenian and Middle-Eastern music. Since immigrating, Lucy has been an active member of the NY/NJ jazz community. Throughout her teens, she was a participant in NJPAC’s Jazz for Teens Program. The atypical combination of an Eastern-oriented style of singing, and traditional jazz, creates an undeniably distinct sound that immediately captivates the listener regardless of cultural background. Lucy's repertoire is vast, and includes unknown and rarely recorded jazz, blues, and sharakan (Armenian chant). If you click on her picture, you'll see Lucy play violin in the septet Sound Sketch lead by sister Tatev, who mostly perform original Armenian or jazz compositions. Lucy performs regularly at various venues and festivals including Cyrille Aimee, and Saturday nights at The Cupping Room.
